Winter 2000

Wintery hives

With the bees settled down for the Winter there is little to do with them but we still had alot to do.

The wax cappings still contain quite alot of honey. We scraped them into a separate bowl with a fine mesh filter on it so that the remaining honey was strained out of the wax.

The cleaned wax cappings we'd removed were melted down into blocks so that it was easier to handle.

Now, what shall we do with it? Make candles? Polish?
Any ideas or suggestions will be welcomed.
Now we have weighed our honey into jars just a few finishing touches are needed. We individualised our jars of honey by designing our own label and adding a tamper-proof strip which is required in case we should manage to sell any of it!
